Open letter from Dacorum’s swimming clubs re Leisure Facilities

We are writing on behalf of the swimming clubs of Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Tring to express our concerns about the potential implications on those clubs as a result of the tender process for Leisure Management Services initiated earlier this year by Dacorum Borough Council.  We have had assurances that the Authority is supportive of sports clubs but the structure envisaged in the tender documents could result in an overall reduction in the size and potential of the clubs using the sports centres which we believe would be to the detriment of the Borough.

Our main concern is that the new Contractor will be able to impose unrestricted price increase on any club (other than Sapphire School of Gymnastics), any number of times a year, and make any change to their existing hire arrangements after a 12-month transition period, subject only to an undefined requirement to maintain the “sustainability” of clubs.

Full details of our concerns may be found in the attached open letter.  Open letter to Dacorum Borough Council v1
