Sunday 2nd October 2016 at Sportspace Hemel Hempstead
Welcome to the first-ever Hemel Triathlon!
What is the event?
Who is it open to?
It is open to everyone aged 16 years and above, including people who have never done a triathlon before.
How much does it cost?
£25 per person (plus £5 day membership to Triathlon England – excludes existing members).
How can I train?
Please come to the main entrance at Sportspace Hemel Hempstead to pick up your race number and register. We recommend you arrive 45 minutes before your swim start time to allow you time to set up in the transition area, get changed and be ready on poolside 15 minutes before your swim start time. You do need to be able to attend the briefing at 7.45am.
Race and Safety Briefing
All competitors must attend the compulsory pre-race briefing at 7.45am in the Sports Hall. It will confirm the format of the event and will let you know of any changes or safety notices. Please be aware of the weather forecast, and wear appropriate clothing.
Amendment of Entry Details
Please notify us of any changes to your entry details prior to the event. No exceptions will be made after the event.
Race numbers are essential for timing purposes and also allow us to track that everyone has finished the course (this means we don’t have to spend hours hunting for you round Hemel Hempstead!). Once you have collected the race numbers, please ensure they are clearly visible for the swim / cycle and run. Use safety pins or a race belt to attach your numbers. Please ensure that the number can be seen through each timing point. During the cycle and running phases, a number must be displayed on your front and back You must also display one of your sticky numbers (provided) on your helmet and one on your bike. You will also be able to write your race number on your upper arms / hands at registration.
Electronic Chip Timing
Please collect your chip timing device when you register. This should be attached to your left ankle (this is the optimum place to allow us to register times) before you enter the pool. You must wear this timing device throughout the whole event.
You will also need to write your race number on both upper arms and backs of hands using the waterproof pens provided. Marshals will then guide you to the starting point.
Please return your chip to the marshal at the finish line where you will be able to pick up a print out of your detailed results. Please note that any chips that are lost will be charged at £10.
Swim: from when the whistle goes in the pool, to when you enter transition.
T1 (Transition 1): from when you enter transition to when you leave transition on your bike.
Bike: from when you exit transition on your bike to when you re-enter transition at the end of the cycle.
T2: From when you enter transition to when you leave transition for the run.
Run: from when you exit transition to start the run, to when you cross the finish line.
Withdrawing part-way through
If you need to withdraw before the end of the race, please inform a race official, preferably at the registration desk. Please also return your chip timing device at the finish line. Let us know if you need any medical help or advice.
This is available on site and qualified first aiders are able to attend casualties out on the course.
Changing Facilities and Baggage Storage
Lockers, changing facilities and showers are available at the Sports Centre. Please note you will need a 20 pence piece to use the lockers. Alternatively you can use the bag drop service in the Sports Hall.
The café will be open from 6am.
Winners will be announced at the prize giving which will be held at approx. 11.30am. A provisional listing of the full results will be posted on the website within 24 hours of the event ending. After this, competitors will have 72 hours from the time of its posting to make any queries.
Any penalties issued will be displayed at the finish line. Any queries regarding these must be referred to the race director.
Post-race collection of kit from transition
Please collect your bike and kit from the transition area (as soon as it’s open) after you finish and before 12.30pm, as we will then need to re-open the car park. Unfortunately we cannot be held responsible for competitors’ property before, during and after the event.
Lost property will be kept for 4 weeks post the event.
They can watch at any point along the route, we just ask that they be mindful of competitors at all time, and obey any instructions given by marshals (this is for safety). Please also be mindful of the general public. Unfortunately spectators will not be allowed in the marked ‘competitor-only’ areas.
Please park in the main sports centre car park or in the car parks on Park Road. Please do not forget to enter your vehicle registration details in the terminals in reception to avoid a parking ticket.
