Berkhamsted have been recognised as one of the leading Bowls clubs in England according to Bowls England who run the game. For two years running 2012 & 2013 the Club finished Runners-Up in the National Club of the Year competition before being named Club of the Year in 2015 largely for their successful recruitment campaign and promotion of the game. The Club have bucked the national trend with growing membership that included the starting up of a Junior section a few years ago. The club are aiming to become one of the leading clubs for youth in England and are forging strong local links to help this happen.
Although Berkhamsted Bowls Club has only been in existence since 1985, the Club has been fortunate enough to have been successful at all levels of competition. We have had representatives at the mens national championships at Worthing and the ladies national championships at Leamington Spa. However, bowling does not always have to be competitive – every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, all bowlers who turn up can participate in a friendly “roll-up”. One evening each week is given over to roll-ups, each evening session being followed by a barbecue.
